50 Hour Yoga Teacher Intensive
After over two decades of not only teaching, but LEARNING from many of the best teachers of our time, I’m finally offering this 50 hour Yoga Teacher Intensive. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have studied in depth, mentored with and/or assisted Shiva Rea, Erich Schiffmann, TKV Desikachar & Danielle Tarantola to name a few. My goal is to share the tools that I’ve learned and put to practice successfully so that you can build your skills and reputation as a Yoga PROFESSIONAL.
Why only 50 hours?
I believe that focused modules are an excellent educational format as a yoga teacher evolves and cultivates their identity as a teacher. While a 200 hour Training a great for a broad overview and foundational understanding, it can be an enormous amount of information equating to knowing a little bit about a lot, not really an in-depth base knowledge on any one subject. Many students come out of 200 hour Trainings not quite equipped or confident to teach a class.
This 50 hour Intensive focuses solely on asana which is what we aim to teach upon graduation of YTT -OR- dedicated students of yoga who are interested in teaching, although not quite ready to commit to a 200 hour program.
What is this intensive all about?
The focus of this intensive is strictly asana….specifically teaching Hatha & Vinyasa.
The curriculum includes:
- A basic overview of what yoga & asana are
- 7 functions of asana/5movements of the spine
- Sequencing theory and practice (pose/theme/ goal)
- Course planning
- Preparatory and counterposes
- Cuing – function vs alignment
- Assists and demonstrating
- How/when to use music
- Setting and holding space
- The Business of being a Yoga Professional
- Yoga Teacher Code of Ethics
What is the structure of the program?
40 hours contact
10 hours 1:1 mentoring / teaching classes
This course can either be scheduled as a one week intensive or over two weeks. Here is an example of a two week structure (schedule can be adjusted to your studio schedule)
Saturday’s – 11am-8pm
Sunday’s – 12pm-6pm
Tuesdays & Thursdays (in studio or ZOOM) 6pm- 9pm
Additional 4 hours of required listening (audio recordings)
Is this a Yoga Alliance Accredited Program?
No, it is not. Yoga Alliance is essentially a registry, not a measure of a teachers capacity to teach. If your studio is a Yoga Alliance School, you might be able to fold this into your Continuing Education Program, although the standards have recently changed.
